The death of a portion of the heart muscle as a result of inadequate blood supply to the relevant area, confirmed by a cardiologist or general physician and evidenced by: typical rise and/or fall of cardiac biomarkers (Troponin T or Troponin I or CK-MB) with at least one value above the 99th percentile of the upper reference limit, and one of the following: signs and symptoms of ischemia which are consistent with myocardial infarction [or ECG changes or imaging evidence].

LifeProtect Trauma Cover

The death of a portion of heart muscle as a result of inadequate blood supply. The basis of diagnosis must be confirmed by an appropriate specialist medical practitioner and evidenced by a typical rise and/or fall of cardiac biomarkers (Troponin I, Troponin T or CK-MB) and must also be supported by one of the following changes consistent with a heart attack: new cardiac symptoms and signs, or electrocardiogram (ECG) tests showing new significant changes, or imaging evidence of new loss of viable myocardium or new regional wall motion abnormality.
Related exclusions (1)
  • Heart attack: other acute coronary and other non-coronary syndromes, including but not limited to angina pectoris, are excluded; a rise in biological markers as a result of an elective percutaneous procedure for coronary artery disease is excluded.
